Dr Garcia recognizes that the majority of Washingtonians have spoken on abortion, and that they support keeping abortion legal. Washington is a pro-choice state.
As an elected Senator whose duty it is to represent the will of the people, Dr Garcia will oppose bills or policies that run counter to the majority position of the people of Washington on abortion.
As a physician, Dr Garcia does not support the government dictating medical decisions for women or their doctors. In his career he has cared for girls and women in traumatic and emergency situations where they had to be referred for a termination of their pregnancies. Banning or severely limiting abortion can result in doctors being unable to perform life-saving procedures.
