Rep. Dan Newhouse Joining Dr Raul Garcia for Start of ‘Freedom From Fentanyl Walk’ July 16

Media Availability at 7AM Tuesday, 7/16 at Big Pines Recreation Site between Yakima & Ellensburg

U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse of Washington’s 4th Congressional District will join U.S. Senate candidate Dr Raul Garcia tomorrow, Tuesday July 16, at 7am at Big Pines Recreation Site in Kittitas County for a media availability at the start of Garcia’s “Freedom From Fentanyl Walk.”

The July 16-21 walk ends in Seattle. Garcia is walking to bring focus to the fentanyl crisis which is killing thousands of Washingtonians, to honor those who have died, and to promote solutions to the crisis. He will be joined at various points by former addicts, people who have lost loved ones to fentanyl, and advocates.

Newhouse launched the Central Washington Fentanyl Task Force in 2023. He co-leads the bipartisan House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) Fentanyl Policy Working Group, which is tasked with ways to combat the CCP’s role in America’s fentanyl crisis.

After the media availability, Garcia will begin the six-day walk which ends Sunday, July 21 at 2 pm at East Portal Viewpoint in Seattle. Details of the walk are at fentanylwalk.com (which redirects to garciaforwa.com/fentanyl-walk/).

Big Pines Recreation Site is located on Canyon Rd, Ellensburg WA 98926 (also known as Yakima River Canyon Scenic Byway and Highway 821). It is roughly midway between Yakima and Ellensburg. Click link for location and directions.
