Women in many parts of Washington have, for years, struggled with an OB-GYN shortage. And for years, the incumbent, Sen. Cantwell, has done nothing to stop or solve this crisis.
We must reprioritize and fund critically needed women’s healthcare in rural hospitals and small communities.
As a physician, Dr. Garcia has worked diligently to bring healthcare access to women. And he has experienced the pain and frustration as his own community, even his own hospital, struggled with losing local OB-GYN care.
As a physician and community leader, Dr Garcia fought to maintain healthcare for women, while Sen. Cantwell did nothing. As a United States Senator, he will take swift action to solve this crisis and start to bring OB-GYN care back to the communities where women & families have lost local access.
After many years of ignoring the OB-GYN crisis, Sen. Cantwell waited until June of this year, when she’s up for re-election, to drop a bill on the issue. That’s unacceptable. How can Sen. Cantwell claim to be a champion of women’s healthcare when she’s been AWOL on a matter so critical to women and families? Dr Garcia will serve everyone, at all times — because politics should never be a factor in such an important issue as women’s healthcare.

“OB-GYN closures & shortages in Washington have been a crisis for well over a decade. So why did Sen. Maria Cantwell wait until this June, a few months before the election, to “notice” it? My own rural hospital was forced to close its Labor & Delivery unit due to high costs, and it was devastating for our community.
“Women across Washington and their healthcare providers needed help years ago, but Sen. Cantwell didn’t lift a finger for them. Bringing OB-GYN care back to the communities that have already lost it will be much harder and more expensive than if Sen. Cantwell had simply done her job in the first place.
“I’ve provided medical care for women throughout my 26 years as a doctor. As your next U.S. Senator, I will make sure the women of Washington are no longer ignored, and that their healthcare needs aren’t just addressed, but are given the priority they deserve.”

“Washington women losing access to OB-GYN care have been ignored for too long. It’s not enough to talk about women’s healthcare at election time. We need leaders who will do something about it! Women & families deserve better.”
